Digital Photography Basics For Taking Great Digital Pictures

You cant get great digital photographs five minutes after buying a new digital camera. Alot of people think that digital photography is easy but if it was then everyone would be doing it. But by knowing and remembering a few digital photography basics then you can get the great pictures that want.
Most people who are not accustomed to the art of digital photography will tell you that the camera is the most important thing. The more expensive the camera is the better, the more mega pixels the camera has the better or even the bigger the zoom the camera has the better. The camera doesn’t decide the viewpoint, the setting, the subject or even the mode in which you set the camera. Now, I will tell you about some digital photography basics that will help when taking pictures and will hopefully help you get the pictures that you want.
1. Get to know your camera
What most people will do when they buy a new digital camera is get home, open the box, flick through the manual and take a quick picture of the dining room table. Then they will turn the camera around, view the LCD screen and if there is an image on the screen then then the camera is working. They will then proceed to take all their pictures in auto mode and with the same flash setting for as long as they are let. If you are going to buy a digital camera and spend the money on it then you really should spend the time and find out how it works. Learning about the different modes and settings or how to control exposure in the camera can make a big difference in your photograph.
2. Control the flash
You should not always rely on the automatic flash to do the work for you. Depending on the shot or situation you are in, you can decide to turn on or off the flash. It’s very important to control the flash yourself as when used in the wrong situation the flash can cause glare or red-eye in pictures.
3. Hold the camera straight
This might seem like a simple thing to do but you would be surprised how many people get this wrong. Hold your camera level and steady when taking a picture this is very important. Use your LCD on the camera to line up the shot with another horizontal line in the frame. If your shooting outside maybe taking a picture of your wife or daughter then use can use something in the backgroung to judge if the camera is level, like a pole or window ledge.
By taking these very simple digital photography basics on board i hope they can in someway help you to achieving the great shots that you wanted. Remember anyone can take a great picture but it comes down to the person and not the camera.

Award-winning Don Chambers is known today for his dynamically honest people photography. His training at the Art Center College of Design followed by his 3 year stint of assisting back in Hollywood, prepared him well for the scope of production that often rolls into his studio. Perpetually energetic, Don is well known for bringing out the best of every person who steps in front of his lens. A more relaxed, cooperative and funny photographer you will be hard pressed to find.
Parlee Chambers has spent her lifetime in creative endeavor. Her many years of production, photography, painting, art direction and styling work making her someone you will be grateful to have handling the many facets of any project you might throw her way. She creates each still life with the heart of a painter, the eye of a stylist and a calm and easy attitude that both clients and crew appreciate. Every shoot and it’s pre-production are bettered by her creative mindset, tip-top organization and the attention she pays to the needs of crew, agency and client.
Dustin Chambers is the next generation of talent, so far winning awards in both film and photography. He captures people and places with a sophisticated edge yet full of emotion. His editing and videography is charged with energy and both find their way into both news sites, broadcast and now advertising assignments.
With their years of collective experience, added to a perfectly matched crew, Don, Parlee and Dustin make each advertising, editorial or annual report image count and ensure that the client sails home with exactly what they were looking for, and then some. At Studio Chambers, talent, skill and a happy atmosphere brew up amazing imagery.
Somewhere in time, right after surf woodies were still easily spotted on Pacific Coast Hwy and substantially before Valley Girls emerged, you would have found Don and Parlee Chambers growing up in Southern California: He on Manhattan Beach and she in the orange-groved San Fernando Valley. Back then, beach cottages merged with inland storefronts of deco design and, further in, fields and farms were gradually dotted by streets of post-WWII houses. Dirt boulevards and roadside stands, surfing long boards and hunting grunion aren’t just a part of family lore but of their own memories. Raised by parents who were also born in LA, (back in the 1920′s), the memories, spirit and roots of the very early California experience are very much a part of who they are.
Surprisingly, however, in the face of choosing the best city for a new commercial photography studio, the waves being made in Atlanta are what lured Don down to the “real” South. Success happened fast. Highly regarded photography, great people, 2 kids (Lily and Dustin) and the perfect dog, has made Atlanta home. To be sure, that bold move in ’83 was a sweet decision.
Now, 24 years after freshly rolling onto Peachtree Street, and with the notable success of the former Pelosi & Chambers studio under their belt, Don and Parlee have created Studio Chambers. Located in Atlanta’s historic Inman Park, the comfortable, state of the art, 4500 sq ft studio is an expression of all that has brought them to this new place in time.
Don and Parlee Chambers have renovated and transformed the long time Electric Motor Repair shop into their advertising photography studio. By day, this space serves their photo shoots for food and people assignments, in the evenings and weekends, it is a venue like no other. Walk in, and you will see a space that feels 1 part: advertising studio, 1 part: best-loft-ever, and 3 parts: Hollywood back lot. Like an old soundstage, the 3000 sq ft interior houses a southern farmhouse with rocking porch, NY brownstone, a factory office, 60′s chill room & make up/wardrobe space. It is so wonderful that people really barely need to decorate. A 20ft cyc wall provides a great backdrop for your band or dj, as well as being the perfect surface on which to project movies, slides, and presentations. (Indoor “screen-on-the-green” events have been very popular.)
Our sound system can be tapped into by your laptop, or an ipod if you just want to use a playlist. In addition, you will have use of an eclectic, modular living area, a conference area illuminated by a surfboard chandelier, and a full professional kitchen.
Yes, there is plenty of free parking.
The Studio is located in the historic area of Inman Park. It is a stone’s throw from The Old 4th Ward, Cabbagetown, and the restaurant/bar hubbub of the Highland area. This is a corner of Atlanta that is bustling with inventive, creative energy.
Come visit, and you’ll see what we mean.
