We have all taken portraits of our favourite family member or friend. Usually, these are recorded in colour. However, a black and white portrait can be almost timeless, certainly classy and can create flattering effects on an otherwise unflattering subject. This photography course online article considers the magical world of monochrome portraits, providing, in no particular order, some guidance to help you when taking your images.
* Shoot in colour. This may seem strange when taking black and white images, but if you convert the images to black and white in Photoshop (or equivalent) in post-production, you also have a collection of colour shots you can use later
* Try getting in close – real close. An image where you can clearly see each line on the subject’s face displays their character
* Capture their natural expressions. We have all seen the cheesy grin when someone poses – but seeing the subject in their natural state reveals much more and makes for a lasting, memorable shot
* Create a moody atmosphere by providing some side lighting. This effectively throws one half of the face into shadow, and can make even the friendliest person appear rather menacing
* Add a depth of field element. For example, ask the subject to partially cover their face with their hand, then move the hand closer to the camera. This adds a 3 dimensional feel, and makes an intriguing twist on a normal portrait
* Make your subject look as ‘unposed’ as possible. Chat to them regularly throughout the shoot and make them feel at ease. Crack a few jokes and get them laughing. If they are enjoying the session, this will leap out from the printed images. A reliable photography course online will cover not just technical aspects, but also include techniques to relax your subject during a portrait session
* A quirky look or other unnatural pose will tell the viewer something different about the subject’s personality and character
* Carefully study your subject’s profile, and take some shots side-on. These can produce striking images, which the viewer would not be expecting. Prominent shapes of cheekbones, noses, lips can all be revealed
* Contrast dark clothing against a light background to create impact
* Frame the subject tightly. This provides an intimate portrait, and successfully eliminates any distractions
* Try to take all types of shots. A photograph revealing a humorous side to an otherwise serious person will make for a captivating image
* In post-production, experiment with selective and creative cropping of the image.
A successful black and white portrait can be more powerful than the equivalent colour image. It takes us to the bare bones of the subject, and gives an almost documentary feel to the picture. Black and white lends itself well to portraying characters, revealing raw emotion that does not always show up with the distraction of colour. If you are currently following a photography course online, submitting a selection of black and white portraits will become a strong addition to your portfolio.

A perfect photo can serve as a good memorabilia to rejoice for the entire life. One may have a complete picture enlarged in the family room or in their bedroom. In fact, clicking the family picture at a photography studio is a great idea than doing it at an outdoor location.
The following are the advantages of doing so:
Taking the family photograph at a professional photography studio keeps the tension of the hairdo being spoiled due to the strong blowing wind away. In fact, it is a great relief for the women or even for the men with lengthy hair. The spiking of hair during the shoot totally damages the beauty of the picture, as it makes the person look ugly and odd.
Taking photographs at a studio also has no problems with the light factor as compared to the outdoor photography. Clicking in the outdoor especially under the hot sun or under a shady tree can bring darks spots to the picture and the quality of the photo may go down. Another major possibility is that the people, who are being photographed, tend to close their eyes due the heat and the strong light of the sun, which ultimately spoils the photograph.
Clicking the picture at a professional photography studio will give a better quality photo, as the photographer has a better understanding about the light required and he/she can arrange for the same. Another benefit of taking the picture at a studio is that you may click at any time of the day, as the artificial lights present remain constant and equal for every photo.
In addition, there is a possibility of bringing any location or any background color by taking photographs at a studio. This is possible with the advancement in the technology, as you can get any desired color background that will match the color of the wall your photograph.
In fact, the photographs taken at a Photography Studio will certainly help you memorize the most memorable moment of your life.

If you have only a few memorabilia, more so concerning your baby photos, you might be missing something worth rejoicing for the rest of your life. You can have a picture enlarged and put in your living room or even bedroom and relive wonderful moments every time you look at it. For such a wonderful moment, there is nothing nice as compared to visiting a photography studio in Cardiff rather than clicking away in a secluded outdoor location.
Some good reasons for doing this abound. If you take baby photos at a professional studio of photography, you might avoid having strong winds and issues of weather affecting your photo session. If you are a woman with long hair, this comes as a relief. Don’t forget hair spiking uncontrollably can totally damage the image beauty making the maternity bound woman to look rather ugly if not odd.
Taking your mum to be photos in a photography studio in Cardiff will make sure the light factor has been dealt with. Taking photos outdoor more so when the hot sun is scorching everything in its wake or even under a shade could occasion dark spots on the photo, affecting the picture quality tremendously. Another reason why the studio is your big chance to great photos is that people have a tendency to have their eyes shut due to strong light or heavy heat, spoiling the photo, ultimately. In case you are taking your mum to be photos with a group of people or another individual, photography studio in Cardiff is something you might want to think seriously about.
Studio photography assures better photo quality done by professionals. The photographer does have a greater understanding concerning such issues as the light and pose and the pregnant woman will greatly benefit. You can also click away at any time by taking the photos in a studio, at any time of the day you are free. Artificial light is constant and equal for every photo taken.
Photography studio in Cardiff has baby photographers who are vastly used and always found on demand. If you want a portrait or a studio shot, they dully facilitate many different clienteles, with some of their specialty ranging from toddler to newborn photographs. In case you can visit their studio or simply ask them to send a couple of their samples, you are sure of choosing the best that you really need for the activity. Their portfolios are usually accessible with some of the current projects completed.
Since you are looking for the best Photography studio in Cardiff, checking their said validity ensures you access professional services. Such photographers also promise you some original background settings.

In a world full of built-in flashes and cameras with automatic everything, its easy to forget how rewarding natural light photography can be. Although getting great results without studio lighting equipment can be more challenging, using natural light can make you a more skilled photographer and often creates some truly stunning images. Many of photographys greatest minds swore by working with the environment rather than manipulating it. If you are up for the challenge, here are a few things to remember before shooting:
Control Your Light
You may not always be able to control the clarity or level of natural light, but you can always change how it interacts with your subject. For instance, when shooting in your home, you can open and close blinds or curtains to impact the level of light available in each room. This is also a great tactic for creating targeted directional light. If you’re in a room with two light sources like windows, you can always cover one side to get the focus and direction of light that you want. Try moving around buildings and structures to see how your movement changes the way your pictures end up.
Dodge the Sun
Though it sounds reasonable that the best time to attempt natural light photography is when the sun is brightest, high noon is actually quite the opposite. The bright and direct light in the middle of the day can cause high contrast, hot spots and stark shadows in your pictures. If you do happen to want the harsh look of direct sunlight, then noon may be a good time. However, if you’re looking for soft and even light for portraits, you’ll get much better results in the early morning hours. Morning air has a sort of clarity to it that is hard to describe, but youll immediately see the difference in your images. You will also find that overcast days are great for natural lighting of subjects as your pictures will be bright but lack harsh directional shadows.
Control Your Speeds
If you use a film camera instead of digital, you should use a medium range film speed like 400 to make sure you’ll be able to shoot in most lighting situations. High and low speed films are incredibly situational and may end in your working around available light rather than with it, which can be time-consuming and cause missed shots. Its also good to choose a shutter speed for the day (youll get good at judging these as time goes on) and only adjust the F-Stop, or vice-versa. The less things you have to remember during your photo shoot, the more “in the moment” you will be.
Shooting with natural light can be one of the most fun or most frustrating experiences a photographer can have. As you work more frequently in natural light photography, you should see more successes and fewer catastrophes. As always, remember to keep it fun and everything should turn out just fine.
